Magazine amazing, download horrendous!

I have a 28 m/bit (download rate) Internet connection... Even wirelessly, speed-tests always indicate awesome download speeds... EXCEPT for PopSci edition downloads! They are ridiculously slow.

My iPad 2 routinely goes to "sleep" while attempting to download the latest edition, causing the download to stop. Downloads only appear to progress when the magazine app is active on the screen. Switching to another app causes the download to stop until the magazine is brought back into focus. Cannot even read OLD PopSci editions while downloading, basically making the iPad completely unusable for the extremely long download duration. (Sometimes upwards of two hours!)

I love PopSci, but in this day & age, there MUST be a way to reduce the huge inconvenience of downloading new editions. Im considering canceling my subscription until this severe flaw is resolved.
